…2015 Project 52 completed!

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

I did complete the year – I did take at least a picture a week with some thought into it besides a simple ‘point and shoot’ image. I totally missed it with uploading the images and updating the blog. However, considering the year I’ve had, I think I still did pretty okay to  keep it going.

You can find the remaining eight images below. I’m just going to let those speak for themselves…

Weeks 42, 43, 44…

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

So, another couple weeks where I didn’t have the time to process my images and upload them to the 52 Frames group I’m with for this year. It’s hard being a student when you’re doing research and then writing papers. At the end of the day (week) all you want is to shut down the computer and spend some time in the real world. However, now that my semester has closed off (even though I have a lot of work to finish still) I’m going to update this space more often.

For now, here are the shots for the past seven weeks and the one for this week.

Week 42 – Future

I guess I could have thought of something more interesting but I didn’t even know the theme for this week…

Week 43 – Mashup

I guess the ‘mash-up’ is more in the name than the picture 🙂 But I tried…

Week 44 – Emotions

I think I nailed this one 🙂 My friend is standing in a butterfly garden – his reaction is priceless as he’s normally more serious.

Rules, sound and flashbacks…

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week 39 – Break the Rules

Week 39 - 2015 Project 52 - Fashion Photography
Week 39 – 2015 Project 52 – Fashion Photography

This week challenged us to ‘break the rules’. I’m still learning the rules/guidelines in photography. However, I took a different view of the theme. Normally, at a fashion show, people would get images of the models and the clothes on display. I wanted a ‘behind the scene’ kind of understanding. I love how the model is moving towards the lights and the photographers are lined up at the end of the ‘ramp’.

Week 40 – Sound

Week 40 - 2015 Project 52 - Rush
Week 40 – 2015 Project 52 – Rush

This was a bit of a coincidence – I didn’t now the theme for this week but was involved in some audio editing work. When I saw the theme I knew I’d want to use this particular image. Yes, it features sound and the whole play on the word ‘snickers’ is also there. However, I also went for a less obvious meaning: these are candy bars and candy bars give energy (a sugar rush?) which is necessary to make sound…

Week 41 – Famous… ah who?

Week 41 - 2015 Project 52 - Message from the past
Week 41 – 2015 Project 52 – Message from the past

I have nothing to fit this theme really. I don’t do a lot of research on famous photographs and who took them. If you showed me an image and asked me who took it – no matter how famous – the odds are that I wouldn’t know who the photographer is. So, instead I used an image that had some meaning for me…

A butterfly (or moth in this case) landing on a person tends to bring good tidings. When we are constantly visited by them in a time period it is a belief that our ancestors are visiting… I just found it sweet that this little fella wanted to hang out with me for a bit.

Who am I?

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week 38 – My Personality

Week 38 - 2015 Project 52 - shadows and light, colours and tears
Week 38 – 2015 Project 52 – shadows and light, colours and tears

One of the worst things ever is to ask me to talk about myself. I have a lot of information to share but for some reason, quite ironic really, I can’t get the meaning across. This week’s challenge was interesting indeed as we were asked to take one picture that gives an idea of our personalities – without featuring people as an extra challenge. To me, there are so many complex aspects of my personality, thus, this was not easy.

I remember a conversation with a then PhD student in 2009. We were on the roof of my hostel in the evening time and as the sun set and twilight turned to night we were having an interesting discussion. It was based on the question, “WHO am I?” Every attempt we made to define who we were placed us in some box that society has created. In the end we realised that to say nothing would be the best way to describe ourselves as the possibilities are endless and we don’t place restrictions on ourselves. Up to this day, I still can’t answer that question yet I have a much deeper understanding after that conversation.

Coming back to this photography project of mine, in the end, I thought this image from a recent road trip summed it up enough. Why? SOME of the reasons why I chose this image are briefly stated below:

  • Life
  • Colours
  • Shadows
  • Darkness
  • Budding flower
  • Tears
  • Disguised ‘sharpness’
  • Macro

That’s about it… 🙂

Delayed monsoon season…

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week 37 – Run

Week 37 - 2015 Project 52 - Monsoon
Week 37 – 2015 Project 52 – Monsoon

I’m not sure what to say about the seasons this year. The summer was blistering, the winter before that almost didn’t happen and I’m not quite sure I saw much of ‘spring’ either. Keeping true to form, the much awaited monsoon almost didn’t show its face either. However, better late than never – as they say.

For this week, the theme was “run” and as I was wondering HOW to depict this in my way I heard thunder and the sound of rain drops hitting the ground outside. The idea of ‘running water’ came to mind. However, due to the rain and a lack of an umbrella I had to make do with staying the protective shelter of the building and getting what shots I could.

I tried multiple shots, as can be seen below, but this one was my favourite. The sad thing was that these young ladies were in a hurry but for some reason decided to stop hurrying and walk in the rain. However, I still like the outcome.
