Colours and Patterns

2016 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week #8 – Complementary Colours

Week 08 - Complementary Colours: Getting dressed
Week 08 – Complementary Colours: Getting dressed

I’ve always loved the ‘sari’ (traditional dress of India). The variety of ways that we can tie one and establish so many different looks is quite amazing! However, one of the things I love the most about this dress is the details that can be found on one. For this week I chose to highlight some of the design work on one of my sari blouses while using the colours red and green to set it off. Yes, once again, the colours are not the focus for this challenge but background…

Week #9 – Patterns

Week 09 - Patterns - Constrictor
Week 09 – Patterns: Constrictor

I have a love for nature and while on a walk with a friend found a lot in ‘nautre’. Some were more apparent than others. However, this was my favourite as the setting sun gave me such beautiful lighting.

Weeks 02-07 of 2016

2016 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week #2 – Black & White

Week 02, 2016 - Black and White: Test your boundaries
Week 02, 2016 – Black and White: Test your boundaries

I love black and white but it doesn’t seem to love me in return. I always get these wonderful (at least to me) shots but never in the week that I want them to. For this week, I finally settled on this because I simply liked it best. It is not the strongest image ever but I still like all the symbolic elements.

Week #3 – Greetings from…

Week 03, 2016 - Greetings from...: Hyderabadi city life
Week 03, 2016 – Greetings from…: Hyderabadi city life

How do I effectively capture the story of ‘greetings from…’? I live in a busy city in India where there thousands of stories that could have been used through images of architecture, culture, landscapes and so forth. However, for this week I liked this image best – there’s clutter and colour, people, vehicles and food, religion and daily lives… Welcome to Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Week #4 – Shoot from below

Week 04, 2016 - Shoot from below: Tropical winter tales
Week 04, 2016 – Shoot from below: Tropical winter tales

From this crop you cant tell that I was looking up at least 70 degrees to get this image. I really did shoot from below – looking up! This tree is really a favourite of mine and I like that I was able to get some colours in this shot and not have it be a complete silhouette…

Week #5 – Shoot from above

Week 05, 2016 - Shoot from above: Abandoned
Week 05, 2016 – Shoot from above: Abandoned

The next obvious challenge was to look down. I think the photograph effectively displayed it this week. I could have gone for a better shot but I wanted to use this one – nature taking back what was once her own. The way the bicycle is almost buried in the drying grass just appealed to me…

Week #6 – Levitation (NOT)

Week 06, 2016: Street Vending
Week 06, 2016: Street Vending

So, I suck at levitation and for some reason  I wasn’t motivated to try this challenge this week. Instead I used an image of one of my favourite things in India – street food! 🙂

Week #7 – (Leading) Lines

Week 07, 2016 - Lines: Natural lines
Week 07, 2016 – Lines: Natural lines

When Mother Nature decides to help you with a challenge, even though you only have your phone on you, you accept it! The coloured versions were pretty but I like the moodiness of the black and white shot more.

Delayed monsoon season…

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week 37 – Run

Week 37 - 2015 Project 52 - Monsoon
Week 37 – 2015 Project 52 – Monsoon

I’m not sure what to say about the seasons this year. The summer was blistering, the winter before that almost didn’t happen and I’m not quite sure I saw much of ‘spring’ either. Keeping true to form, the much awaited monsoon almost didn’t show its face either. However, better late than never – as they say.

For this week, the theme was “run” and as I was wondering HOW to depict this in my way I heard thunder and the sound of rain drops hitting the ground outside. The idea of ‘running water’ came to mind. However, due to the rain and a lack of an umbrella I had to make do with staying the protective shelter of the building and getting what shots I could.

I tried multiple shots, as can be seen below, but this one was my favourite. The sad thing was that these young ladies were in a hurry but for some reason decided to stop hurrying and walk in the rain. However, I still like the outcome.

What happened in August?

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Now that I’ve finally managed to upload the images for July I can finish off August and I will be ‘caught up’ on my blog backlog…

Week 33 – Night Photography

Week 33 - 2015 Project 52 - Hyderabad at night
Week 33 – 2015 Project 52 – Hyderabad at night

This is definitely one of my favorite genres now. I’m definitely still developing the skills necessary for different settings but it doesn’t stop me. While most of my fellow framers were pointing their cameras to the sky and capturing amazing star trails and so forth, I decided to point min down from roof of a 4-story building. It was an overcast night and the light pollution caused the sky to have that tone. I liked the simpleness of this image.

Week 34 – Wabi Sabi

Week 34 - 2015 Project 52 - City living
Week 34 – 2015 Project 52 – City living

So, I have no idea what this theme was about. Google helped a bit but I don’t think I nailed it completely. According to research, wabi sabi comes from Japanese and basically looks at ‘beauty in transcendence.’ I’m just going to leave this here… I took this image from the train at one of the stops. It might be chaotic and it might not be desirable to all, but I found beauty in the doorway and the cloth used… I’ll have to try a bit more with this theme.

Week 35 – Fire

Week 35 - 2015 Project 52 - ...
Week 35 – 2015 Project 52 – …

I love fire! I guess some might say I’m a bit of a pyromaniac. So, I was sad to realize that I missed the theme once again. However, here’s a picture of one of my friends from a photoshoot! Enjoy 🙂

Week 36 – Dreams and Fantasy

Week 36 - 2015 Project 52 - Distinguished
Week 36 – 2015 Project 52 – Distinguished

Some might say ‘another portrait’. However, those who know the backstory would know why I used this for the theme this week. This gentleman is one of the first professors for my department. This was him during our first ever Alumni meet as past students spoke about their time at university and what they’ve accomplished since then. He was thanked multiple times for his dedication. In a way, he’s seeing his dreams and fantasies as a teacher being realized…

End of semester madness!

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

… soooooooo… I’ve had a crazy dash towards the end of the semester and didn’t get to upload my images since Week 14, however, I have been taking pictures. Since this is my ‘catch up week’, here are the outstanding ones:

Week 15 – Nature

Week 15 - 2015 Project 52 - Prince charming...
Week 15 – 2015 Project 52 – Prince charming…

For a nature lover, I had no idea what I wanted to do for this week. I knew I’d get something good – maybe not brilliant but good, however I wasn’t sure exactly what that “something good” should be. I tried the lizard in my hostel that hangs out on the window frame in the girls’ bathroom (rather pervy amphibian!), I tried macro shots of the mosquitoes in my room (a bit morbid as they were falling dead due to the insect spray I used) and I even tried plants. However, one night, while sitting with some friends on our ‘lawn’ outside the hostel, I saw this rather handsome guy just sitting there so I ran for my camera…an voila!

Week 16 – Through a Child’s Eye

Week 16 - 2015 Project 52 - Barriers
Week 16 – 2015 Project 52 – Barriers

I tried to think how I wanted to represent this week’s theme and there were multiple ways to do so. I even had a child ready to assist. However, time constraints resulted in this early Sunday morning (when the image was due). My idea was to show how some children are locked away (maybe not literally), placed behind bars, and forced to see the world as a spectator because ‘children must be seen and not heard.’

Week 17 – Macro

Week 17 - 2015 Project 52 - tools of thoughts
Week 17 – 2015 Project 52 – tools of thoughts

This was another last minute image so I kept it simple and to the point (get it?). I was working on my final paper, which I colour code for easy reference, so decided to use my pens as my subject.

Week 18 – Behind the Scenes

Week 18 - 2015 Project 52 - learning
Week 18 – 2015 Project 52 – learning

After finals were over, things started to get a bit looney in my hostel (the international house). One evening the guys just started sparring and all of a sudden they were teaching each other fighting techniques for self defence… Not your typical behind the scenes picture but still one I like. 🙂

Week 19 – A New Technique (not…)

Week 19 - 2015 Project 52 - end of semester hangout
Week 19 – 2015 Project 52 – end of semester hangout

So, I didn’t hit this nail on the head (theme wise) as it was another one of those weeks of rushing around and not having enough time in the day. However, This was my favourite from that week.
