Weeks 02-07 of 2016

2016 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week #2 – Black & White

Week 02, 2016 - Black and White: Test your boundaries
Week 02, 2016 – Black and White: Test your boundaries

I love black and white but it doesn’t seem to love me in return. I always get these wonderful (at least to me) shots but never in the week that I want them to. For this week, I finally settled on this because I simply liked it best. It is not the strongest image ever but I still like all the symbolic elements.

Week #3 – Greetings from…

Week 03, 2016 - Greetings from...: Hyderabadi city life
Week 03, 2016 – Greetings from…: Hyderabadi city life

How do I effectively capture the story of ‘greetings from…’? I live in a busy city in India where there thousands of stories that could have been used through images of architecture, culture, landscapes and so forth. However, for this week I liked this image best – there’s clutter and colour, people, vehicles and food, religion and daily lives… Welcome to Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Week #4 – Shoot from below

Week 04, 2016 - Shoot from below: Tropical winter tales
Week 04, 2016 – Shoot from below: Tropical winter tales

From this crop you cant tell that I was looking up at least 70 degrees to get this image. I really did shoot from below – looking up! This tree is really a favourite of mine and I like that I was able to get some colours in this shot and not have it be a complete silhouette…

Week #5 – Shoot from above

Week 05, 2016 - Shoot from above: Abandoned
Week 05, 2016 – Shoot from above: Abandoned

The next obvious challenge was to look down. I think the photograph effectively displayed it this week. I could have gone for a better shot but I wanted to use this one – nature taking back what was once her own. The way the bicycle is almost buried in the drying grass just appealed to me…

Week #6 – Levitation (NOT)

Week 06, 2016: Street Vending
Week 06, 2016: Street Vending

So, I suck at levitation and for some reason  I wasn’t motivated to try this challenge this week. Instead I used an image of one of my favourite things in India – street food! 🙂

Week #7 – (Leading) Lines

Week 07, 2016 - Lines: Natural lines
Week 07, 2016 – Lines: Natural lines

When Mother Nature decides to help you with a challenge, even though you only have your phone on you, you accept it! The coloured versions were pretty but I like the moodiness of the black and white shot more.

…2015 Project 52 completed!

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

I did complete the year – I did take at least a picture a week with some thought into it besides a simple ‘point and shoot’ image. I totally missed it with uploading the images and updating the blog. However, considering the year I’ve had, I think I still did pretty okay to  keep it going.

You can find the remaining eight images below. I’m just going to let those speak for themselves…

Finishing off July

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

I lost track of time and just realized that I haven’t updated the blog since the beginning of July – wow! Yes, it really takes dedication and when things are happening in one’s life, then others are sidelined… However, let’s see if I can fix this. The following are the images I took for my Project 52 during July…

Week 29 – Street Photography

Week 29 - 2015 Project 52 - Night Lime
Week 29 – 2015 Project 52 – Night Lime

The theme for this week was ‘street photography’. The aim is not to get a street in the picture but to capture everyday happenings in an image; to get a normal occurrence.

I was having dinner at this roadside ‘cafe’ of sorts with some friends and saw this scene – a bunch of young men having a nice conversation. I liked the naturalness of it and, even though I wished I had my DSLR, I think the cell phone did an okay job.

Week 30 – Unusual

Week 30 - 2015 Project 52 - Laundry sea
Week 30 – 2015 Project 52 – Laundry sea

This week was a bit of a struggle for me. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or how to emphasize this theme. I walked into the washroom and saw that the soap suds caused the washing machine door to explode. The result was this picture of the excess suds on the ground.

I’m definitely not happy with this image as it fits the theme but I do like it.

Week 31 – Magic Hour

Week 31 - 2015 Project 52 - Morning Glory
Week 31 – 2015 Project 52 – Morning Glory

This was a cheat week for me. I didn’t remember to take an image specific to the theme so I reprocessed an old image from 2013 and uploaded it. I took may images this week, but for some reason I wanted to get one to fit this theme as I take a lot of my pictures during the magic hours of the day (morning and afternoon).

Week 32 – Edited by someone else

Week 32 - 2015 Project 52 - Night time wanderings
Week 32 – 2015 Project 52 – Night time wanderings

This was a week for another camera phone picture. I didn’t, once again, know the theme for this week. However, I liked the results of my night photography…

End of semester madness!

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

… soooooooo… I’ve had a crazy dash towards the end of the semester and didn’t get to upload my images since Week 14, however, I have been taking pictures. Since this is my ‘catch up week’, here are the outstanding ones:

Week 15 – Nature

Week 15 - 2015 Project 52 - Prince charming...
Week 15 – 2015 Project 52 – Prince charming…

For a nature lover, I had no idea what I wanted to do for this week. I knew I’d get something good – maybe not brilliant but good, however I wasn’t sure exactly what that “something good” should be. I tried the lizard in my hostel that hangs out on the window frame in the girls’ bathroom (rather pervy amphibian!), I tried macro shots of the mosquitoes in my room (a bit morbid as they were falling dead due to the insect spray I used) and I even tried plants. However, one night, while sitting with some friends on our ‘lawn’ outside the hostel, I saw this rather handsome guy just sitting there so I ran for my camera…an voila!

Week 16 – Through a Child’s Eye

Week 16 - 2015 Project 52 - Barriers
Week 16 – 2015 Project 52 – Barriers

I tried to think how I wanted to represent this week’s theme and there were multiple ways to do so. I even had a child ready to assist. However, time constraints resulted in this early Sunday morning (when the image was due). My idea was to show how some children are locked away (maybe not literally), placed behind bars, and forced to see the world as a spectator because ‘children must be seen and not heard.’

Week 17 – Macro

Week 17 - 2015 Project 52 - tools of thoughts
Week 17 – 2015 Project 52 – tools of thoughts

This was another last minute image so I kept it simple and to the point (get it?). I was working on my final paper, which I colour code for easy reference, so decided to use my pens as my subject.

Week 18 – Behind the Scenes

Week 18 - 2015 Project 52 - learning
Week 18 – 2015 Project 52 – learning

After finals were over, things started to get a bit looney in my hostel (the international house). One evening the guys just started sparring and all of a sudden they were teaching each other fighting techniques for self defence… Not your typical behind the scenes picture but still one I like. 🙂

Week 19 – A New Technique (not…)

Week 19 - 2015 Project 52 - end of semester hangout
Week 19 – 2015 Project 52 – end of semester hangout

So, I didn’t hit this nail on the head (theme wise) as it was another one of those weeks of rushing around and not having enough time in the day. However, This was my favourite from that week.

Reflections, metaphor and literal…

2015 – Project 52 / 52Frames / A Picture a Week Challenge

Week 10 – Reflections

Week 10 - 2015 Project 52 - Reflections, metaphor and literal...
Week 10 – 2015 Project 52 – Reflections, metaphor and literal…

After two weeks of not so great pictures, I was determined to ensure I had something solid for this week. I worked a bit with this challenge and I’m very happy with the results. It was just simply about moving the subject around until I found something that worked.

The write up about this image provided for my 52Frames submission: “I had quite a few of these but this one was my favourite – it might not be the best but it was my favourite. I recently found out that he doesn’t read music, he listens and replays so I found that back story to be equally important as using a mirror. His love for music seems to come through this picture, for me at least…”
